In the mid-nineties Budweiser was trying to get distributors to consistently buy beer from the brewery instead of bulk buying when it was on sale and then siting on the product. After repeated attempts to force them to comply they came up with a novel approach, they let the consumers force it. Common folks that had never looked at beer dates suddenly started watching them the way stay-at-home-parents monitored their milk. It revolutionized the way the American public dealt with beer, and it continues to this day. Anyone who has had a barley pop fresh from the tanks on a brewery tour knows this. It just tastes better. So in our increasingly interconnected world where everything is one click away, and nothing seems insurmountable, it only seems fitting that brewers would send the freshest beer possible out to a thirsty public. But, leave it to Lagunitas Brewing to take it a step further. After all they are the makers of a beer dedicated to a federal raid for marijuana at their brewery years ago, and another with a censored label.

When the time came that hoppy beers jumped the shark with brewers everywhere trying to make the most bitter beer ever, we went more toward flavor and aromas in the beer and used hop extract for our bittering agent to keep the beer huge on flavor and letting the malt keep up with the bitterness to make you want another. And another. And Another.
“Best before” dates are important for a beer, but they aren’t an exact with a limited shelf life, drinking beers as close to their brew date has.

When Nebraska Brewing began selling six-packs of cans in Wisconsin this spring, the IPA — particularly its intense, sweet mango-orange aroma — shined. For years, the Lagunitas beer sold in Wisconsin — one of 39 states to receive it — made a cross-country trek from its birthplace in Petaluma, California.
And nearly every other beer Lagunitas makes, from pilsner to barleywine, has a finger on the hops side of the scale to tip the balance that way. So when Lagunitas opened its brewery in a former steel factory this spring, my inner hophead rejoiced.

Best Before Dates – Fresh Beer II
And And probably , if we make it that far. As long as craft beer has been a thing, IPAs have dominated, bringing drinkers in flocks to their favorite beer bars , turning naysayers into beer snobs , and sending rabid collectors across state lines. Which makes picking the best IPAs quite a task, especially in the summer: The best at any given time can be mainstays, one-offs, and everything in between. We will revisit the list in the months to come to add new beers and subtract the ones lost to time, so that you always have your finger on the proverbial IPA pulse.

THE LITTLE LADY OF LAGUNITAS
Drink fresh. The phrase is seen a lot in the beer industry, sometimes literally printed on the packaging. But as beers have become hoppier, with intense flavor profiles driven by compounds with a limited shelf life, drinking beers as close to their brew date has become more important than ever to capture them at their peak. As a result, serious beer fans are spending more time looking for “best before” dates on packages.
But what if you miss those dates?
Lagunitas’s packaging uses the Julian date, followed by the batch But not everyone fully entrusts distributors with being the freshness police.
Meanwhile, some styles taste better aged, e. You definitely wouldn’t see a “Best by:” for these types, and in fact you might even see a “Best after:”. So perhaps the “Born on:” label is a way of letting the enthusiast decide how long to age a beer, without feeling forced to wait a minimum number of months or years. Would you happen to know or remember the styles or even better, the exact name of the beers that said “Best by:” vs.

I see that beers have expiration dates, but I’m not sure what those dates mean. If the beer is refrigerated, it can last up to two years beyond the expiration date.
I only recently began drinking and enjoying beer. Since moving on from my strictly wine and cocktails days, I’ve had a lot of catching up to do in order to learn about the beer world. I’ve got a pretty good handle on the different types of beer and beer lingo , but there are other questions that I still felt the need to dig into more. For example, does beer go bad? I see that beers have expiration dates, but I’m not sure what those dates mean. It’s alcohol, which means it can’t expire, right?
Turns out, beer does go bad. Here are some key warning signs that your six pack is a little sickly. This should be pretty obvious since skunk isn’t exactly an appetizing scent, but a skunky beer is often not a good beer. This is actually the root of the term “skunked,” which many people use to describe bad beer. Basically a beer gets skunky when it’s exposed to the right combo of UV rays and colored glass that doesn’t block out the rays.
Some beers, like Heineken, are bottled in colored bottles and therefore often get skunky , which people tend to enjoy. Therefore, skunky beer is sometimes not indicative of a bad beer, which is pretty damn confusing. Until you open it, your beer shouldn’t have come into contact with any oxygen.

Forty-two years have passed since California’s golden star first glittered in the flag of the United States of America. Acquired for the evident purpose of extending slave-holding territory, it was occupied for years by a multitude of cosmopolitan “free lances,” who swept away the defenceless Indians, and brutally robbed the great native families, the old “Dons.
Society slowly made headway against these motley adventurers. Mad riot, wildest excess, marked these earlier days.
By moving its production from its Chicago brewery to overseas, Stipp said Lagunitas would be able to put fresher beer in the marketplace at “a.
It’s on the cases only. The packaging date is on the bottom of each can and on the side of each six pack. It is a Julian date that will read, for example, On the lower left side of the label is the month and year of bottling. It’s on the neck of the bottle, near the top. From the brewer: We try to get it video-jetted on the neck label of each bottle, but some of them get by us on packaging day.
Does Beer Go Bad? Here’s How You Can Tell
Low-Calorie IPA is already a trend for craft beer in American craft beer as a whole is taking a huge sales hit from the surge in demand for hard seltzer and hard kombucha, which offer up fruity, light-bodied alternatives to stereotypical heavy, filling craft beer. For , several nationally distributed breweries are introducing Low-Calorie IPAs, which for all intents and purposes are the same as Session IPAs but now have official calories on the label.
codes, like, for example, Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas. “Packaging codes are intentionally unreadable. Beer with no freshness dating except.
Go ahead and read that headline again. Hop-forward beers continue to grow in popularity as well as production. I also monitor hundreds no exaggeration of label approvals a day, and I can tell you that there are a lot of new hoppy beers hitting our beer shelves more than half of the labels I view are hop-forward. As an example, just last month I was chasing a case of Founders Mosaic Promise for the beach.
My own mybeerbuzz. Off I go to the bottle shop to buy the pack. Thankfully Founders is actually printing freshness dates on the box, because right at the front of the pack section, are two boxes with dates…. They have recently added dates, but prior to that just try find a date on any of the Two Hearted packaging beyond the can itself.
